As a counselor educator since 1995, and program chair I’ve designed curriculum and pedagogy to educate professional counselors, psychologists, social workers, and mental health professionals; I’ve successfully led CACREP accreditation and revised curriculum to meet accreditation and licensure standards. I am the founder of MOSAIC Consulting and Counseling Services. I received my doctorate in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola College, (Loyola University of Maryland), and Masters of Arts in Counseling Services from Rider University.
I have worked in the field of Mental Health Counseling and Education since 1984, specializing in Cultural Competence in Counseling, Wellness in Faith and Spiritual-based Communities, Disordered and Problem Gambling, Homicidal Loss, and Grief and Loss Recovery. My clinical specialty also includes Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) and Trauma. My very personal mission is to support mental health practitioners in professional development, and equip them with the tools to maintain a high level of competency both in practice and in self-care.
As a scholar and educator, I’ve published numerous articles and book chapters in cultural competence in mental health, disordered and problem gambling, and sexual abuse and trauma. I’ve been a keynote speaker on the topics of gambling disorders, cultural competencies, the integration of faith and spiritual practices in mental health counseling, and bereavement, including homicidal loss. My suggestion for books on Mental Health Awareness: 12 Books on Mental and Emotional Healthy Blackety Black Folks.
